When asked to write a blog about all the ways I love my life, many things flashed before my eyes: the beautiful orioles and plentiful avocados on the trees in my backyard; my morning meditation ritual and leisurely paced life; my two orange tabby cats who spread mischief around the house.
I live in a community that offers opportunities to experience love in all its expressions, and I find the silence and freedom divine. I believe I have a lucky planet placement to thank for that. Astrologically, I have Venus in Taurus which means (at least so far) that I’ve been blessed not to have to worry about a roof over my head, food on my table, and am surrounded by quality and beauty.
I love what I do – as a psychotherapist in private practice and an author who spent 21 years writing and editing Attitude Reconstruction, a book that integrates east and west, and correlates our emotions with our thoughts, words, and deeds. I have a goal and purpose — to spread what I have discovered so that we can experience more joy, love, and peace by just physically and constructively handling our sadness, anger, and fear.
But I also realized one of the most significant ways I’ve chosen to love my life—is by honoring myself. I do this so much more easily now than I did 30 years ago. I’ve fully accepted who I am. I stopped comparing myself to others, owned that I have my own unique path and became fine with it. I make decisions that align me with my goals and purpose, and with each step, I feel more comfortable in my own shoes.
I also stopped asking ‘why’ and just accepted life as it is. And when I find myself wondering what might or might not happen in the future, I give it to the gods and live by the motto, “We’ll see.”
Loving my life isn’t so much about having or doing as just being. And I’m blessed to love what is, love what is not and to take life as it unfolds in a million wondrous ways.
